well we've succesfully had Sky installed but now we're experiencing a strange problem...

we can connect via the laptop wirelessly with no problem but when we turn on the PC (where the router is hardwired into and the router is installed) the laptop loses connection and cant connect until it gets rebooted. Also when the PS3 is connected and we stream movies via the PC (via PS3 Media Server) it knocks out the laptop AND the PC...

strangely I can still connect to Xboxlive and she can still stream that shitty dancing program hosted by whatshername from Big Brother

it seems like there's a priority networking issue going on but i cant figure it out and surprisingly the mrs is struggling too and shes the network genius!

help! BangHead.gif BangHead.gif

bad news ... as im a sky connect customer it seems im doomed and may have to change, line gets throttled during peak times, 5 til midnight!!!!,info here
http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/gaming-sky/...ox-live-ok.html

and this is the email i got from sky today

Dear Mr Barron

>Thank you for contacting the Sky Help Centre regarding your slow connection. I have included our policy on Traffic Management as this would appear to be the cause of your slow connection at peak times.

Slow Connection for Sky Broadband Connect
>
>Connect Traffic Management

If you are experiencing consistently slow speeds only during peak times (5pm-midnight) and its affecting certain applications including P2P file sharing, but interactive applications (web browsing, video streaming, email, chat) are not affected then this is most likely due to the Connect Traffic Management being applied by Sky.

Sky aims to provide all customers with a fast, reliable and high quality service. To achieve this for the Connect service, we need to manage our network to ensure that we are able to safeguard the online experience for all of our customers.

Peak time usage

If you are experiencing slow speeds for all applications particularly P2P file sharing and speeds are faster outside of peak times, then this is most likely related to Sky applying restrictions to your connection due to excessive use during peak hours.

To help with speed issues you can:

Schedule large downloads and P2P use outside of peak hours to avoid triggering ‘Excessive Use’ restrictions.

P2P applications can often involve using the customer’s connection to upload and share files to other users of the same P2P application – this usage will also count towards you usage allowance, and can contribute to triggering of excessive use restrictions.

I hope this information has helped with your enquiry. If you require any further assistance, you can respond to my email. You can also contact our Technical team on 08442 411 411, where one of our advisors will be happy to help.

Does that apply to all their broadband? Or did they try to sell you an upgrade to a different package?

Gaming shouldnt be included in P2P though m8. P2P means downloading using P2P software, ie torrents, etc.
Sounds like Sky are fecking shite tbh though.
My parents have PlusNet and it seems ok but they dont use it a great amount.

Just read that Sky forum thread andit looks like they say the throttling may happen as an excuse for their terrible capacity and/or contention ratio issues. I would stay well away wacko.gif

You could check here for what your exchange is set up for... http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Seems "connect" is fir people outside the range of existing sky network. Seems they should simply admit they can't look after these people rather than offer this halfway house.

That said I have sky "everyday" and while I have no idea what my stats are, everything feels fine and reliable.
